Troop 454 Takes the Plunge
After three weekends of swimming studying, testing, and diving, 17 scouts from troop 454 have joined the ranks as the newest PADI Open Water Divers.
The guys from Troop 454 got their start on April 10th at Scubaland North and finished up with checkout dives at both the Comal River and Aquarena Springs in San Marcos. By the 25th of April we had 17 new divers ready to go dive Florida’s east coast.
The guys from troop 454 did a fantastic job through all portions of the course and are well prepared for their trip to Florida this summer.
For all their great work and enthusiasm for diving we have named the guys from troop 454 and most importantly the moms and dads of the guys from Troop 454 as our students of the month.

Positive feedback all around. The troop can and should enforce the BSA "suggestion" that the swimming merit badge comes before the scuba merit badge. Swimming MB is a requirement but the order is the suggested part. Tell your future scouts that I recommend completing the swimming portion of the swimming merit badge first.
Great results for the first SCUBA merit badge:
- 17 certified divers
- 6 merit badges awarded
- 8 in progress
- 7 earning swimming merit badge
- 1 to complete CPR training
- 2 scouts scheduled for certification in May
- 1 scout ready to be the next generation
