PADI Divemaster Course
Course cost $350, not incl. materials
Course Length: varies, due to our format using a 1-on-1 mentor
relationship with shop instructors.
Prerequisites to entry: 18 years of age, PADI Rescue Diver (or
qualifying equivalent), 20 dives to begin
Suggested & Required Preparations: (Required) Read the Encyclopedia
of Recreational Diving, completion of the Diving Knowledge Workbook's answers
and complete the Knowledge Reviews in the Divemaster Manual. (Suggested)
Review of the RDP's use, both table and wheel versions. Review, but not
memorize, the "General Standards & Procedures" and the Divemaster conducted
programs' sections of the Instructor Manual.
Description: The PADI Divemaster course is the first professional level of PADI
professional certifications. Divemaster act as assistants to PADI Open
Water SCUBA Instructors, lead certified divers on recreational dives, conduct
programs such as SCUBA Review and Discover Local Diving, and are an integral
part of the day-to-day operations of any dive center.
Divemaster candidates are trained and tested in areas such as dive theory,
PADI standards, SCUBA skills, swimming stamina, and rescue techniques.
Divemasters command a great deal of respect from open water divers because
Divemasters are generally responsible for the fun and safety of certified
divers.
As part of the Divemaster program, candidates are assigned a dive
professional (usually an Open Water SCUBA Instructor) as a mentor. The
mentoring program is an integral part of the certification process.
The PADI Divemaster course is a prerequisite for the PADI Assistant
Instructor and the PADI Open Water SCUBA Instructor ratings.

PADI Assistant Instructor Course
Course cost $400, not incl. materials
Course Length: 3 days across two weekends.
Prerequisites to entry: PADI Divemaster (or qualifying
equivalent)
Suggested & Required Preparations: (Required) Completion of
the related Knowledge Reviews in the Instructor Candidate Workbook, have in your possession
a PADI Medical Statement less than 1 year old that is signed by physician, have
all required necessary materials, all personal scuba equipment necessary to
teach an Open Water class (weights and tanks may be rented).
(Suggested) Review of 5 standard theory examinations (Physics, Physiology,
Skills & Environment, Equipment, and Deco Theory/RDP. Practice the 20
basic skills outlined in the Divemaster Manual. Review (not memorize) the
entire Instructor Manual. Take sample pre-quizzes (provided for download
below), and be able to answer 80% correctly on all subjects.
Description: This course provides the initial level of
preparation toward teaching PADI students, and once completed, allows the
candidate to provide some direct instruction under the supervision of a
Teaching-Status PADI Instructor. Here you will learn the PADI methodology
of instruction, how to conduct the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy and PADI AWARE
specialties (with which you will be able to certify students), and how to
conduct classroom, confined water, and open water instruction. The PADI
Assistant Instructor Course is the first component of the PADI Instructor
Development Course.
