Flower Gardens Trips
The Texas Flower Gardens Marine Sanctuary are the northernmost reefs in the Gulf of Mexico. There are over 175 species of invertebrates and at least 18 species of coral. Aside from the usual array of Caribbean critters, there are also sightings of Manta Rays, Eagle Rays, Spotted Dolphin, Octopus, Sea Horses, Turtles, Whale Sharks and Hammerhead Sharks!! Visibility at the Gardens averages 100'. The depths at the Flower Gardens start at 60' and many large pelagic are sighted at the surface.
Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary is one of 14 federally designated underwater areas protected by NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, and the only site located in the Gulf of Mexico. Map of North America and the Pacific Ocean.
Situated 70 to 115 miles off the coasts of Texas and Louisiana, the Flower Garden Banks sanctuary includes underwater communities that rise from the depths of the Gulf of Mexico atop underwater mountains called salt domes.
The Flower Garden Banks were discovered by snapper and grouper fishermen in the late 1800's. They named the banks after the brightly colored sponges, plants, and other marine life they sometimes snagged and brought to the surface.
This is a weekday trip to the Texas Flower Gardens Marine Sanctuary . All meals and 7 air dives included. Nitrox is available for an additional $65. Divers must bring all SCUBA and snorkeling gear as well as certication card and log book.
