Bubblemaker (ages 8+)

Youngsters can join in the family fun of scuba diving or even start a trend! Children should be comfortable in the water, but they don’t have to be super swimmers. With youngsters in mind, the maximum depth is only 2 meters/ 6 feet.

PADI Junior Open Water Diver Certification

Getting your PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification is easy!  Junior divers take the same class as the adults and use the same materials.  A junior diver must be at least 10 years old before the class starts.  There is a Youth in Diving video and some extra information for Mom and Dad in case they are not divers.  Parents are always welcome to observe class and are encouraged to participate by auditing the course with their child.  A junior diver certification automatically upgrades to a full PADI Open Water Diver certification at the age of 15.  That's a great time for a PADI ReActivate refresher!

Popular Questions

Got a question? We’re here to help.

  • How old is old enough?

Bubblemakers and Seal Team members need to be at least 8 years old.  Junior Open Water Divers need to be at least 10 years old.  In addition to age we consider a junior divers physical and mental maturity.  You can speak to one of our Kids Instructors or one of our training counselors for help.

  • Bubblemaker or Seal Team?

The Bubblemaker program is designed to be a fun and easy to accomplish experience that is completed in a couple of hours.  There are no skills to complete, just breather underwater!

The Seal Team and Master Seal Team programs are more structured and contain both skills and objectives for junior divers to complete.  They will learn some of the same skills an Open Water Diver learns.  Seal Team programs are usually done over two to three evenings and we always celebrate graduation with a pizza party!

  • Is there a different course for junior divers?

Bubblemaker and Seal Team programs are not certification programs.  The PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification is completed by taking the PADI Open Water Diver course.  This is the same course that adults take and is offered multiple times a week during most weeks.  Junior divers often do better in this course than the adults do!

  • What if my Junior Diver isn't ready?

You know your child better than anyone.  Our training counselors can help you choose the right option for your junior diver.  If your child is struggling or not enjoying their course we will work with you by either upgrading your child to a private class that be conducted at a slower pace or by putting their training on hold until they get a little older.  We will help you protect your investment in your child's underwater education!

  • How do I get a junior certification upgraded?

It's easy!  Come to the dive store and we'll take a new picture of you and request a replacement card.  The only cost involved is the cost of the replacement card.  However, this is a great time to do a PADI ReActivate refresher!
